Bill and Isabel grew up in California in the 1920’s and 30’s. They both came from poverty and were never able to finish school. Isabel came from a hard working family who worked as farm laborers and Bill was a hard worker who eventually learned to drive constructions equipment to pave roads. Bill and Isabel were very hard workers and understood what it takes to overcome poverty, thus, they both had a spot in their hearts for poor Latino farmworkers and especially their children.
Bill and Isabel were very social people, active in their church and community and had numerous god –children. They became active in the Our Lady of Refuge Parish, the Third Order of St. Francis, Food Pantries, etc. They wanted to help others who were experiencing hardships and to help students to further their education so they might have a better life.
It is fortunate that their hard work has provided the funds to help many people now and in the future. With the money they have left Our Lady of Refuge we have been able to create a food pantry as well as provide a scholarships for students. Thus, we thank them for their generosity. We hope that their ways of loving others only creates further love.
